The Story Behind Every Bite

Treasures of Lisboa started as a food tour company in Lisbon, built from scratch by Ruthy & Marcio, young entrepreneurs who decided to leave their work-in-an-office-all-day life in Paris for adventures in Lisbon.

Marcio is Portuguese, born in the stunning mountains of Portugal. Ruthy is French, born and raised in the big city of Paris. When they meet in Paris, their lives change: they share the same vision of the world, they adore good food, they both love nature. It’s a perfect match. Marcio takes Ruthy on several trips to Portugal to make her discover his beautiful country, North to South. Quickly, Ruthy falls in love with Portugal – how could you not – and, after 8 years of relationship, she suggests to leave France for the sun of Lisbon, even though they only visited this city once for 3days.

That’s how their adventure starts! Marcio quits his job, Ruthy hands her resignation letter dressed as a Dragon, because why not. In 2016 they head off to Portugal with one idea in mind: sharing their love of Food and Portugal; combine both and you get one of the best Food Tour ever created in Lisbon: Treasures of Lisboa Food Tours. ❤️

What is the cancellation policy of the activities offered by Treasures of Lisboa Food Tours?

Plans change — we totally understand 😊. You can cancel public Lisbon food tours up to 24 hours before your experience. For private food tours, please let us know 5 days in advance. Easy, simple, and stress-free so you can book your Portuguese food tour with complete confidence. For Tailor Made tour, it depends on the activity selected so please get in touch!

The food tour I want to attend is full, what can I do?

Our Lisbon food tours are very popular, and our small group sizes mean some dates sell out quickly. If the tour you would like to join is fully booked, we encourage you to contact us through our contact form. We may be able to offer alternative dates, add you to a waiting list, or suggest another Lisbon food experience that fits your schedule. Our team will always do their best to help you find a solution so you can still enjoy an authentic Portuguese food tour in Lisbon.🌟

I have a specific diet / food allergies – can I take part in the Lisbon food tours you offer

Yes. We can accommodate most food allergies and dietary restrictions. Please contact us as soon as possible so we can confirm what is possible and make the necessary arrangements via treasuresoflisboa@gmail.com. At the moment, we are unfortunately not able to accommodate vegan diets or strict vegetarian diets (diets without both meat and fish), as many traditional Portuguese food tastings include animal products. A pescatarian diet, for example, is perfectly fine. If you have questions about dietary requirements, just reach out — we will always do our best to help you have a safe and delicious experience.

I do not drink alcohol – can I take part in your Lisbon food tours anyway?

Of course. You can absolutely enjoy our Lisbon food tour without drinking alcohol. At every stop where alcohol is normally served, we provide non-alcoholic alternatives depending on availability, such as water, sparkling water, cola, cola zero, iced tea, and other soft drinks. You will still enjoy the full Lisbon culinary experience with amazing Portuguese food, great company, and delicious alternatives.

What happens if it rains?

Rain or shine, our Lisbon food tours go ahead. We recommend checking the weather forecast before your tour and bringing an umbrella, comfortable clothing, and non-slip shoes if rain is expected. Lisbon's historic cobblestone streets — especially in neighbourhoods like Alfama — can get slippery, but that is part of the authentic charm of exploring the city. 🌧️

I am in a wheelchair – can I take part in a food tour?

Lisbon is a beautiful but historic city built on seven hills, and our food tours include slopes, descents, stairs, and narrow cobblestone streets — particularly in Alfama — that can be difficult to navigate with a wheelchair. Unfortunately, due to these accessibility challenges, we must regretfully advise that wheelchair users do not participate in this particular tour, as we want all our guests to have a comfortable and safe experience. If accessibility improves in the future, we hope to welcome you on a Treasures of Lisboa culinary experience.

I have a stroller – can I take part in a food tour?

Yes, you can join our Lisbon food tour with a stroller if you really need it, however, we strongly recommend bringing a baby carrier instead if possible. Our food tour route includes stairs, slopes, and the city's famous cobblestone streets — especially in areas like Alfama — which can make using a stroller challenging. A baby carrier will make your experience much more comfortable and allow you to fully enjoy the tour.
